It seems like new finance-related apps and programs are released daily. Among these new programs are ways to pay friends or vendors without having to break out the ol’ stone tablet, otherwise known as a checkbook. Some of these programs can be a little confusing to navigate. Luckily, Google Pay has made it easy to receive money and then get those funds to your bank account. A shortlist of steps is provided at the bottom.
Step 1: Fire up your Google Pay app
If you are trying to figure out how to transfer funds from Google Pay to your bank account, then it’s safe to assume you already have a Google Pay account. If not, come back when you do. If you have received payment and need to transfer that money to your bank account, the first thing you need to do is open up your Google Pay app. Tap on your Google Pay app to open up its home screen.
Step 2: Profile Icon
Once you have opened your Google Pay app, you should see your profile icon at the top right corner of the screen. It should be a colored circle with the first letter of your first name in the middle and is the same icon that you see associated with all other aspects of your Google account. Tap on your profile icon to open your user settings.
Step 3: Google Pay Balance
A new screen should open after tapping the profile icon, showing the same profile icon with your email address associated with your Google account below it. You should also see selections for “Settings” and “Help & Feedback.” Directly below your profile icon, you will see your email address. Right below the email address, there should be a rectangular-shaped box with the title “Money in Google Pay” and some sort of currency amount. You will also see an icon at the top right of this box that looks like two horseshoes interlocked at their openings. This box also indicates how much money you have available to you for transfer in your Google Pay. Next, tap this box.
Step 4: Transfer Out
Tapping the Google Pay balance box will open a new screen showing your current balance. The same interlocked horseshoe icon will be at the top middle of the screen. You should also see your transaction history feed at the bottom of this screen. Directly below your Google Pay balance, there are two options: “+ Add money” and “Transfer out.” If it wasn’t obvious already, tap the “Transfer out” option.
Step 5: Choose Your Amount
The new screen will reveal a spot to enter a currency amount. At this point you need to choose the amount of cash that you want to transfer out of your Google Pay app. When doing this, keep in mind the total amount that you have available to you. Enter the amount you wish to transfer out and tap the “Next” button.
Step 6: Payment Method
At this point, you will be asked to choose a payment method. If you have not yet added a payment method to your Google Pay account, you can learn how here. If you have not done so already, add a payment method before continuing to Step 7. This should be easy to determine because you will not have any payments options available to choose from.
Along with a direct deposit to your checking or savings account, you may have a debit card added. Debit card transfers out of Google Pay are normally instant. However, you will be charged a 1.5% fee for making a debit card transfer. Once you have selected a payment method, tap the “transfer out” icon and you’re all set.
Step 7: Sit Back and Relax
Now just sit back and relax. Don’t panic if you do not see your funds immediately. Depending on your bank, it can take 1-3 business days for the cash to hit your bank account. Try paying with the Google Pay app if you need that cash quickly. If that is not an option, then remember transfers to a debit card are normally instant, although you will be hit with a 1.5% fee. Typically this fee is a very minuscule amount and virtually unnoticeable
Should you encounter any problems, Google provides some information regarding common reasons you may experience difficulties. Regardless, you should have a record of the transfer in your transaction feed in case you need to reference it with Customer Support.
